Fellowships & Grants

Selection Procedure

The number of participants is strictly limited to ensure an efficient interaction between students and lecturers. We will accept a maximum of 120 students or post-docs and 20 principal investigators. Participants will be primarily selected on the basis of submitted abstracts. A maximum number of students per research group or laboratory may be instated. Selection of grant awardees will be done by the organizers.

FEBS Youth Travel Funds (YTFs) for Young Scientists from FEBS Countries

Up to 30 FEBS YTF (Youth Travel Fund) grants covering registration fee and full board for 6 nights at the venue will be available for young scientists (PhD students and PhDs within 5 years after obtaining a PhD) working in an academic institution of higher learning in any FEBS member country. In addition, all YTF grants provide travel support (from country of residence/work to meeting, up to 80% for Western Europe and up to 100% for Eastern Europe). Eligibility, Conditions & Restrictions:

  1. Applicants must either be registered as a student at an institution of higher learning in a country where there is a FEBS Constituent Society or must be within five years of having obtained a PhD degree.
  2. must be members of any FEBS Constituent society (see List of societies at WWW.FEBS.ORG)
  3. must not have received a grant from the Youth Travel Fund scheme in the current year.

In addition, to be eligible for the YTFs, applicants must submit via the online registration system:

  1. an abstract as a first author.
  2. a CV of maximal 2 pages in PDF format.
  3. apply in the onlineregistration system for a YTF Grant.

Applications for YTF grants, as well as abstracts and CVs, can only be submitted at the same time through the online registration system.

Furthermore, applicants must send by FAX or by post to the SysBio2011 Meeting Office not later than December 17, 2010:

  1. a verification of a FEBS constituent society membership (on society letterhead signed by the responsible office of the constituent society). Please write your name and as subject "FEBS-SysBio2011: FEBS membership confirmation" on the coversheet of the fax.
  2. a signed letter of reference from a mentor/supervisor who is also entitled to confirm the status as a young scientist. Please write your name and as subject "FEBS-SysBio2011: YTF grant reference letter" on the coversheet of the fax.

Transcontinental FEBS YTF Grants for Africa, Asia, North & South America (TransYTFs)

A limited number of up to 12 FEBS Transcontinental YTF Grants (TransYTFs) covering registration fee and full board for 6 nights at the venue will be available for young scientists (PhD students and PhDs within 5 years after obtaining a PhD) working in an academic institution of higher learning in Africa, Asia (incl. India, Indonesia, China & Japan), North America (USA/Canada) and South America. In addition, TransYTF grants provide travel support (only for duration of meeting from country of residence/work to meeting). Detailed information and FAQs on FEBS TransYTF Grants can be found here.

Eligibility, Conditions & Restrictions:

  1. Applicants should be a student at an institution of higher learning in a country where there is a IUBMB-related international society such as FASBMB (Africa) / ASBMB (North America) / PABMB (South America & Canada), FAOBMB (Asia). 
  2. should be members of any IUBMB-related national or international societies mentioned under 1.
  3. must be young scientists such as PhD students or be a PhD within five years of obtaining his/her PhD degree.
  4. must not have received a TransYTF grant to attend a Course in the current year.

In addition, to be eligible for the grant, applicants must submit via the online registration system:

  1. an abstract as a first author.
  2. a CV of maximal 2 pages in PDF format.
  3. apply in the online registration system for a TransYTF grant.

Applications for TransYTF grants, as well as abstracts and CVs, can only be submitted at the same time through the online registration system.

Other grants

SYSINBIO: up to 12 students working in a SYSINBIO lab can apply for a registration fee waiver (covering registration fee and full board for 6 nights at the venue). Applicants must provide the following documents: abstract, CV, statement from SYSINBIO lab (fax to +43 1 4277 9618).
